Many of us work hard to achieve fair and flawless skin. Some of the potential causes of dark skin are; dry skin, certain medical conditions, eating an unbalanced diet, long exposure to the sun, stress, genetics, and improper lifestyle choices. There are effective natural ways to lighten skin, and skin brightening products that target post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or dark spots due to sun exposure.
Skin brightening products
They either work to block the production of pigment or help to increase cell turnover to exfoliate away the darker-stained upper layers of the skin. This helps reveal lighter, healthier skin. ABOTANIQ’s Brightening Night Cream is an example; it is rich, yet lightweight, and high-performance. The cream diminishes dullness and also helps reduce dark spots. This in turn helps return your skin to a more naturally even complexion.
Do not leave skin whitening creams on for too long, their chemical ingredients may damage or irritate your skin.

Tomatoes
Tomatoes have natural bleaching and whitening properties that lighten skin. Their natural acidic composition balances skin pH to prevent excessive oil and make it look bright. By mixing tomato pulp and yoghurt and applying this to the dark skin, you can brighten your skin.
Lemon juice
It is packed with citric and ascorbic acid, which are both excellent sources of Vitamin C, and have skin lightening properties. Natural astringent properties contained in lemon juice help tighten pores and reduces sebum secretion. Use a cotton ball to apply lemon juice to the dark skin daily, and rinse off after twenty minutes. For sensitive skin, remember to dilute the lemon juice with water before application.
Yoghurt
Yoghurt is known to be rich in lactic acid. It has bleaching properties that work by helping treat hyper-pigmented skin. They do this by suppressing melanin production. Lactic acid has gentle alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that act as exfoliants to clear dead cells. This, in turn, helps give a brighter skin tone.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera contains a compound called Aloesin which inhibits tyrosinase activity and regulates melanin production in the skin. Aloe Vera gel leaves skin smooth, soft, and bright with its anti-oxidant properties.
Papaya
Its rich flavor itself makes it hard to resist. But here is more, eating papaya daily can give you a complexion that is lighter and also makes your skin glow. You can make a mask by crushing two slices of pawpaw and add in some lemon juice. Spread it onto your face and wash it off after 20 minutes.
Potato juice
It will whiten your skin and also when applied under the eyes, gets rid of dark circles and eye bags. You can blend potatoes and then squeeze the juice out and apply it onto your face and leave it on until it dries off. Rinse your face with a mild soap afterwards.
